Work Description
Old, gnarled branches stretch diagonally, rendered with dry brush and scorched ink to convey the resilience of plum twigs. Delicate petals are outlined with pale ink, while stamens are highlighted in deep black; through sparse shadows, a hint of cold fragrance emerges. The composition adopts a dramatic, precarious stance, with the negative space evoking the presence of snow.
Artist Statement
Plum blossoms are a quintessential subject in freehand brush painting, embodying the essence of structural integrity. Every turn and bend of the branches tests the artist's command of the brush. In internal painting, rendering plum blossoms is akin to writing a concise letter on paper—each stroke must stand firm.
