Ink-wash style depiction of insects among grass: a dragonfly flutters, a grasshopper leaps, and a mantis waits in stillness. The translucent texture of insect wings is rendered with ultra-fine brushwork, while blades of grass are dyed in pale green to evoke vibrant life.

Though tiny, grass insects have incredibly complex structures. To draw them well, you must observe them closely for extended periods. The first lesson in fine-line painting taught me is to patiently observe the world.
